As a model for school community partnership, Umoja provides the intensive services that most schools simply cannot. Since being formed in 1997, Umoja has expanded to include student development programs in schools across the Chicago area, as well as the Umoja University series of professional development conferences.
Umoja demonstrates that young people in under-resourced environments can and do improve when given meaningful learning and leadership opportunities along with long-term supportive relationships with dedicated adults.
