Michelle Brown Restorative Justice Specialist
Michelle Brown joined Umoja in July of 2016. As a graduate from Illinois State University, majoring in psychology, Michelle began working with youth in residential homes before furthering her education.
After graduating with her Masters in Social Work from The University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration Michelle wanted to continue her work in schools, but focus on a systems approach. As a Restorative Justice Specialist at Gage Park High School, she runs the Peace Room, a space to use restorative practices to address conflict within the school and behavior concerns. In addition to seeing cases in the Peace Room, her role is to help make Restorative Justice integration ongoing and sustainable through coaching, collaborating, and consulting with adults to support them as they incorporate restorative practices in their day-to-day work.
