Umoja programs, activities, and resources have been built into the fabric of Manley Career Academy and have substantially changed the overall school culture and the day-to-day experiences of students.

Umoja partners with teachers and school leadership at Manley and ACE Tech to cultivate faith in the capacity of all students to grow, learn, and assume responsibility for themselves. For young people who have long been plagued by low academic and social expectations, these opportunities and relationships are essential to keeping them in school and building toward a positive future.

Umoja uses its holistic programming as a tool to:

• Motivate and engage students in academic success and discovery.
• Make certain students graduate from high school aware of their post-secondary options with a plan for achieving their college and career goals.
• Actively involve parents, families, and the business community in student achievement.
• Increase students’ connections with themselves, their peers, and their community.
• Bridge the divide between the school and community by actively engaging students in leadership and community building initiatives.
• Provide intensive long-term post-secondary follow up with graduates.
