On November 16th, business professionals from Chicago came to Manley High School to spend the morning working with seniors on career exploration and college readiness. Students gain exposure to firsthand insights and stories through career panels and one-on-one mock interviews in an effort to prepare students to navigate the college and career interview process.

By learning about various career paths and exploring their own ambitions, Umoja students gain the kinds of access and opportunities so many of them have had missing from their educational experience. With support through events like T3, more than 90% of Manley’s 2012 graduates were accepted into college; this is nearly 40% higher than the overall college acceptance rate for CPS seniors system-wide (City of Chicago, June 2009).
