Asher Miller Sr. Restorative Justice Specialist | Site: Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy
Asher (he/him/his) joined Umoja in August 2016. He has always had a commitment to education with a particular focus on students impacted by inequitable educational conditions.
As a high school student, he developed his love for the education field beginning with serving as a mentor for lower-level math classes. Asher attended the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana where he served as a Teaching Assistant in Kenya and worked one-on-one with special needs students in the summertime. After graduating from UIUC in 2013, he worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Northern Suburban Special Education District in Northbrook, IL and then served as a Field Organizer for a governor's race in Texas. He served as an AmeriCorps Public Ally at the Center for Companies That Care as a Program Associate working with underserved high school students around Chicago to help them get to and through college.
Most recently, he served as an Upward Bound Specialist at Manley Career Academy High School. He is thrilled to transition to the role of Senior Restorative Justice Specialist, and has been this doing work he deeply believes in--coaching adults to facilitate Restorative Practices in the Peace Room at Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy--since 2017.
