Jacare Thomas Chief of Growth & Innovation
From 2005 to 2008, Jacare Thomas served as Umoja’s Director of College & Career. Jacare returns to Umoja after twelve years of service at Chicago Public Schools.
In his time at CPS, Jacare conceptualized and co-authored the Freshman On-Track handbook for school counselors. Focused on building systems of continuous improvement, Jacare has served as Data Strategist for hundreds of schools throughout Chicago. Prior to leaving CPS and rejoining Umoja, Jacare Thomas led the development and implementation of Chicago Public School’s Continuous Improvement Framework; guiding over 60 CPS departments and 659 schools in the use of data to develop strategies that bridge gaps between the current states of education to the future state that all students deserve.
Since receiving his Bachelor degrees from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Jacare has earned a Master’s of Science in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University, completed a leadership fellowship with The Surge Institute and is currently a fellow at Chicago United for Equity. As Umoja’s Chief of Growth and Innovation, Jacare now leads the organization in planning and developing its capacity and opportunities for increased social impact.
