Jen Ciok Social Emotional Learning Manager | Sites: North Chicago HS & Sullivan HS
Jen (she/her/hers) joined Umoja in August 2016. She came to Umoja after 15 years in the classroom as a middle-school history and English teacher.
Her passion for building student understandings and service-learning guides her philosophy at Umoja and how she seeks to empower teachers and students to help create a better world for young people. In 2013, Jennifer was named to the Board of Directors for the non-profit, A Better Life for Kids, which works to support opportunities for children in Ghana. In 2017, she was named to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Advisory Committee where Jennifer is supporting initiatives of social justice and equity at the museum. In 2018, Jen completed the Education Pioneers Visiting Summer Fellowship and then was nominated as an Agent of Change in 2019. She also sits on the Alumni Board for the Chicago chapter of this organization.
Jennifer went to Ohio University where she obtained her Bachelors in Education and her Masters in Reading Education. She also has her credentials in College and Career Advising and Gifted Education. Jen has been married since 2002 and has two children, Molly is 12 and John is 10. As a family, they love to travel and explore.
