Kristin McKay Director, External Affairs
Kristin (she/her/hers) joined Umoja in July 2014.
Kristin began her career at Umoja as an RJ Specialist supporting the RJ Partnership at Lincoln Park HS. After two years of direct, embedded support, Kristin became the Director of Restorative Justice and grew Umoja's RJ model, partnership portfolio, professional development materials, and adult capacity-building tools. Additionally, Kristin had the honor of supporting the RJ Team and their 11 school partnerships. In her new role, Kristin is dedicated to telling Umoja's story of growth, innovation, and deep dedication to equitable education in schools. Kristin is excited to cultivate new supporters of Umoja's growing work and continue to champion the brilliance of Umoja staff and the adults that Umoja trains. Her passion for social justice, education, and dedication to decreasing structural inequality led her to non-punitive conflict resolution in CPS schools. Her love of storytelling, visual marketing, and engaging with others in the community have led her to her current role. She comes to this work with a background in international teaching, criminal defense work in Chicago, and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago.
